THE STORY BEHIND
“CAN'T SEE RIGHT”
Sometimes a mistake is where the meaning begins.
“Can't See Right” started by accident: a detail I missed while designing the Sunday Sinner mask became the first line of a song about uncertainty, faith, and seeing the world differently.

01 · THE UNFINISHED DETAIL
A MISTAKE I DIDN'T SEE
I wasn't trying to write a song. I was working on the Sunday Sinner mask.
While designing it, I had to stop several times to take care of other things. Somewhere along the way, I apparently forgot to finish part of the right eye. I didn't notice the unfinished area until after the entire mask had been printed.
The print had taken 14 hours. After that, I'd spent around two hours applying primer, another hour spray-painting the mask black, and another three hours painting the details. I had put a lot of time into bringing it to life, and finding the mistake that late was definitely not part of the plan.
02 · THE RIGHT EYE
THE IMPERFECTION
BECAME THE IMAGE
Then I looked at the right eye.
The unfinished area looked strangely like a bullet had gone through it. What I had thought of as a design flaw suddenly looked as if it belonged there—as if the mask had a story of its own.
Instead of treating the imperfection as something that had ruined the mask, I started seeing it as something that could give the mask meaning. The damaged-looking eye became part of the character.
03 · THE FIRST WORDS
ONE LINE OPENED THE DOOR
The image gave me the first lyric—and the lyric gave the song somewhere to begin.
“I've been shot in the right eye
Now I can't see the right way”
I hadn't planned the lyrics or worked backward from some grand concept. One small mistake in a mask design gave me one small lyric, and that lyric opened the door to an entire song.
04 · BEYOND THE DESIGN
WHEN THE OLD ANSWERS BLUR
The eye became a visual symbol for not being sure how to see things anymore.
The song's central idea grew from that moment: what happens when you can no longer see things the way you once did? What happens when the beliefs you relied on, the difference between right and wrong, or your understanding of the world no longer feel so clear?
The mask's right eye became a visual symbol for that uncertainty. The words began to carry a meaning beyond the physical design.

Looking back, it's strange to think that a forgotten detail in a design could lead to a song. I could have seen the mistake, scrapped the work, and started over. Instead, I found a way to turn it into something meaningful. And that's what makes its story worth telling.
